Hooray! It’s finally summer – the time of year when all we want to do is be outside. As a woman in her thirties I know how important it is to use great beauty products that will protect my skin and hair. I am going to be sharing some of my absolute go-to skincare products during the summer months.
1. Moisturizer with SPF
When looking for a great moisturizer make sure the formula is lightweight. The Body Shop’s Vitamin E with SPF is a great choice, as well as, Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Moisturizer with SPF 30. Both of these products provide great sun protection without leaving an oily or heavy residue on the skin. I never leave home without my face protected.
2. Skin Cleanser
A great cleanser is a summer must-have! I change up my cleanser in the summer months because my skin is not as dry, but I still want a great cleanse. I love the Boscia Purifying Cleansing Gel (at Sephora) as it does not dry my skin out, but instead, it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and fully cleansed. If you are looking for a budget friendly cleanser that will give you an amazing cleanse try the Biore Combination Skin Balancing Cleanser (at Shoppers Drug Mart).
There are many bronzer choices on the market these days so it can be a bit overwhelming. Choose a bronzer than blends seamlessly with your skin tone. When applying bronzer always start with a small amount of product. You can blend and add more product as necessary. Start applying the bronzer just under your cheekbones and then apply it to your forehead area just above your eyebrows. Lastly, apply the bronzer on the bridge of your nose, essentially the t-zone of your face. Try the Hourglass Ambient Bronzer (at Sephora), or the Clinique True Bronzed Pressed Powder (at The Bay). These products are great for most skin tones, and can be easily blended so you get that sun-kissed look.
4. Dry Shampoo
Every woman needs a great dry shampoo for those days when you may not want to wash your hair, but you want your hair to look like you just washed it. When using a dry shampoo apply it at your roots and then use your hands or a towel to get rid of the excess product (pretend that you are washing your hair to get rid of the excess product). Try Caffeine for Major Volume by Sally Hershberger (at Shoppers Drug Mart), Dove Dry Shampoo (at Shoppers Drug Mart) or if you want to splurge, Moroccan Oil (at Royal Beauty) has just released a dry shampoo as well.
5. Restoring Hair Shampoo and Conditioner
The summer sun can often have a negative effect on your hair. You may find your hair is more dry or maybe more oily in the summer months. A great restoring shampoo and conditioner will help replenish your hair, by adding volume and strengthening the follicles. For a splurge try Living Proof’s Restore line (at Sephora), I have just started using their products and my hair has never been better. For a budget friendly version, try the L’Oréal EverStrong (at Shoppers Drug Mart) shampoo and conditioner.
