Pamper Yourself for Prom, You’ve Earned It!

POSTED April 23rd, 2014

Now that you’ve got your fitness routine down pat, it’s time to beautify and pamper in anticipation of the big day. We’ve got tips on how to amp up your beauty routine with a t-minus 2 week countdown to prom.

Two Weeks Before

  • Consider applying nail oil (regular olive oil will also do the trick) to your nail beds and cuticle to ensure your mani is in tip-top-shape
  • I am all for a glow, but it has to be a healthy one! Consider Jergens Natural Glow or St. Tropez Self Tanner for the perfect bronze hue without the risky side effects! Quick tip: Wait three days after your first application to see the full effects before applying your second coat.
  • Use a face mask. Avoiding greasy foods and getting rest before the pre-prom jitters set in is an easy one but if you want to minimize your risk of acne before the big day, use a clay face mask two times a week to help unclog pores and minimize acne.
  • Be sure to sleep regularly, eat healthy and try to squeeze in some exercise to keep your stress levels low. Check out our exercise tips for prom here!
  • Moisturize! Every morning and night before bed, apply a rich and nourishing moisturizer to your face but also rougher spots such as elbows and knees.

One Week Before

  • Bold brows are certainly making their comebacks but if yours needs some taming, consider getting a wax or thread a week before to avoid any redness
  • Hair Maintenance. If you planned on getting a trim, cut or needed any colour touch-ups, try to book your appointment for 3-5 days ahead of prom to ensure no last minute scares deter you from your ideal look.

Days Before Prom

  • Get your nails did. There’s a ton of at-home kits which make manis and pedis a breeze. Consider some fun color combos like pink fingernails and red toes or a bold black and white combo.
  • Brighten your complexion with a facial scrub. Not only will this rid your skin of dead cells but will enhance your skin’s softness and give you a smoother complexion.
  • Wash it – your hair that is. Day old hair is often best for most hairstyles and avoiding conditioner can also leave hair full and thick.

Friday Prom Round-Up – Pretty in Pink!

POSTED April 18th, 2014

Steal the spotlight in this embellished Ombre gown from Le Chateau. I mean an embroidered sweetheart necklace and tulle skirt in one? It’s the ultimate girly dress for this year’s prom season. Since the dress makes quite the statement on its own, my recommendation is to stick with a neutral nude pump that won’t compete with the elements up top. A hint of sparkle in a pair of Aldo chandelier earrings and stretchable bracelet from Banana Republic compliment the look perfectly. Add a cherry on top with this square stone clutch from BCBG. I suggest removing the chain strap for the evening’s festivities but this clutch can double as a great cross-body bag for future events. And last but not least, a vibrant pink hued lipstick from MAC – Candy Yum Yum – is sure to be the finishing touch on this ultimate girly glam look.

Dress: Ombre Sweetheart Gown, $245 (Le Chateau)
Shoes: Mesiano Nude Pump, $80 (Aldo)
Earrings: Musetta Earrings, Aldo, $15 (Aldo)
Bracelet: Silver Stretch Bracelet, $55 (Banana Republic)
Clutch: LULU Square Stone, $138 (BCBG)
Lipstick: Candy Yum Yum, $18 (MAC at The Bay)

lululemon: a label packaged with love

POSTED September 24th, 2013

Hey Everyone!

So happy to be back and to share an amazing experience I recently had with the newly opened lululemon store at Mapleview Centre. I dropped in for a visit a few days ago and was shocked to see the crowds of people hanging out in the store checking out the merchandise, viewing the community board and soaking up the energy of this amazing store.

The lululemon manifesto is welcoming, honest and trust worthy which often lacks in today’s brands. What’s even more amazing is that the Mapleview Centre staff truly does live and breathe this mantra to the utmost. I was greeted by a team of energetic and passionate people that loved to talk about their store and what it’s all about.

For example, a free yoga class is hosted every Sunday morning at 9:30am within the store. How amazing is that? Feel free to drop by next Sunday and all they ask is you bring a non-perishable item if you’re able for the Burlington chapter of the Salvation Army. The team was also gearing up to support one of their local brand ambassadors, Sue Abel, as she assumes the leadership role in hosting this year’s Turkey Trot Race.  For more details, be sure to stop by the store and check out their community board for this and other local events the team is supporting.
And then of course, there’s the gear. Whether you’re after the coveted Scuba hoodie or Wunder Under pant (what’s not to love about these names?!) they’re stocked up and ready to go. I learned that the store is also equipped with a notification email system so if there’s a new product you’re looking to get your hands on or can’t seem to find it online, you can get alerted when the item drops into the store in your preferred color and size. Got to love technology!

After perusing through the store and soaking up the positive energy, I left feeling refreshed and pumped to try a fitness class or two. Here are some of my favorite items I found when in store:

Ladies Scuba Hoodie:

Ladies Wunder Under Pants:

Ladies Voyage Pullover:

Men’s Post Gravity Jacket:

Be sure to stop by this fab addition to Mapleview Centre and tweet at us to let us know what you think at @MapleviewCentre.

Till next time fashionistas!
