Friday Prom Round-Up – Pretty in Pink!

POSTED April 18th, 2014

Steal the spotlight in this embellished Ombre gown from Le Chateau. I mean an embroidered sweetheart necklace and tulle skirt in one? It’s the ultimate girly dress for this year’s prom season. Since the dress makes quite the statement on its own, my recommendation is to stick with a neutral nude pump that won’t compete with the elements up top. A hint of sparkle in a pair of Aldo chandelier earrings and stretchable bracelet from Banana Republic compliment the look perfectly. Add a cherry on top with this square stone clutch from BCBG. I suggest removing the chain strap for the evening’s festivities but this clutch can double as a great cross-body bag for future events. And last but not least, a vibrant pink hued lipstick from MAC – Candy Yum Yum – is sure to be the finishing touch on this ultimate girly glam look.

Dress: Ombre Sweetheart Gown, $245 (Le Chateau)
Shoes: Mesiano Nude Pump, $80 (Aldo)
Earrings: Musetta Earrings, Aldo, $15 (Aldo)
Bracelet: Silver Stretch Bracelet, $55 (Banana Republic)
Clutch: LULU Square Stone, $138 (BCBG)
Lipstick: Candy Yum Yum, $18 (MAC at The Bay)

lululemon: a label packaged with love

POSTED September 24th, 2013

Hey Everyone!

So happy to be back and to share an amazing experience I recently had with the newly opened lululemon store at Mapleview Centre. I dropped in for a visit a few days ago and was shocked to see the crowds of people hanging out in the store checking out the merchandise, viewing the community board and soaking up the energy of this amazing store.

The lululemon manifesto is welcoming, honest and trust worthy which often lacks in today’s brands. What’s even more amazing is that the Mapleview Centre staff truly does live and breathe this mantra to the utmost. I was greeted by a team of energetic and passionate people that loved to talk about their store and what it’s all about.

For example, a free yoga class is hosted every Sunday morning at 9:30am within the store. How amazing is that? Feel free to drop by next Sunday and all they ask is you bring a non-perishable item if you’re able for the Burlington chapter of the Salvation Army. The team was also gearing up to support one of their local brand ambassadors, Sue Abel, as she assumes the leadership role in hosting this year’s Turkey Trot Race.  For more details, be sure to stop by the store and check out their community board for this and other local events the team is supporting.
And then of course, there’s the gear. Whether you’re after the coveted Scuba hoodie or Wunder Under pant (what’s not to love about these names?!) they’re stocked up and ready to go. I learned that the store is also equipped with a notification email system so if there’s a new product you’re looking to get your hands on or can’t seem to find it online, you can get alerted when the item drops into the store in your preferred color and size. Got to love technology!

After perusing through the store and soaking up the positive energy, I left feeling refreshed and pumped to try a fitness class or two. Here are some of my favorite items I found when in store:

Ladies Scuba Hoodie:

Ladies Wunder Under Pants:

Ladies Voyage Pullover:

Men’s Post Gravity Jacket:

Be sure to stop by this fab addition to Mapleview Centre and tweet at us to let us know what you think at @MapleviewCentre.

Till next time fashionistas!

Got honor-roll worthy style? Show us and you could win $500!

POSTED August 21st, 2013

The looming thought on everyone’s mind lately? Summer’s almost over! Personally, I like to look at life with the glass half full and take solace in the fact that fall is just around the corner which can only mean one thing – it’s time to update my wardrobe! This season’s trends are more exciting than ever and Mapleview Centre wants to put you in control of what you think is trending from runways to hallways this season.

Starting August 23rd and running until September 15th, Mapleview Centre will be hosting their Runway to Hallway promo and quizzing you on what you think is going to be hot for the fall season. With weekly draws of $100 Mapleview Centre gift cards and a grand prize of $500 – we know everyone will be aiming for an ‘A’ in participation.

Here’s how you can enter:

1. Visit the classroom in the food court at Mapleview Centre

2. Register at the kiosk and snap a shot of your favourite back to school fundamental

3. Share your style with family and friends and encourage them to vote for you daily at

Looking for some cheater notes before making your selections? See my selections below on what staple items men and women can add to their closet for the fall season:

Animal Print:

Women love it and men well; they’ll learn to embrace the trend! Consider incorporating this print into your wardrobe with ease such as loafers from Brown’s Shoes or in more adventurous ways such as a blazer from H&M or a cropped trouser from Banana Republic. For the gents, consider the print on a t-shirt as seen at Boathouse or even a scarf from Zara.

Whether it’s slim leggings from H&M, a new moto-style jacket at Hudson’s Bay or even fingerless gloves from Danier, we’re seeing hints of leather on various applications this fall. If you’ve already got a staple jacket in your wardrobe, consider a fun alternative color in the season’s hottest shade: oxblood.

As the temperatures prepare to drop, be sure to add some textual layers to your wardrobe for the fall season. For the ladies, consider a cable-knit poncho from FEMME , thick scarf from Aritzia or even a cape. For the gents, I love crew neck sweaters or even cotton blazers both seen at Gap.

Be sure to swing by the classroom for more inspired looks for the fall season. Hope to see you there!

A Dress to Remember: Project Prom at Mapleview

POSTED April 10th, 2013

Spring is in the air, the birds have begun chirping and flowers have begun sprouting. But let’s be honest, if you’re in high school, the ONLY thing on your mind right now is prom! Dates are being asked, limo rides are being orchestrated and teens everywhere are asking the same question: what am I going to wear to prom?

This prom season, there’s no need to look any further than Mapleview Centre. With hundreds of shops offering dresses to tuxes and pumps to oxfords, there is something for everyone. Unsure as to what trend best suits you? Not to worry, I’ll recap some of the trends from award season and what’s hot this spring so you can pick an outfit that best suits your style.

Metallic Gold – This year is all about drama. And I’m not talking high school drama, I’m talking floor length gowns with metallic gold accents. Be sure to balance the hue with black or neutral accents.

Bright White – Flowing, ethereal white gowns were a top pick and are the perfect nod to summer. To avoid a bridal look, add black or bold metallic accents.

Colour Pop – Consider yourself a risk taker? Why not opt for this season’s biggest trend: neon hues. Whether it’s fuchsia or chartreuse, there’s a bold gown out there with your name on it.

As for styles, peplum reins strong while risky slits and embellished prints are new to the scene. Consider a baroque inspired pattern for a true statement.

As for the gents, don’t be scared to shy away from a classic – a slim-fitting black suit.  Personal details to customize a suit are really popular such as patterned bowties, lapel pins or bold puffs. Other popular styles include dark grey combos, three piece ensembles and a window-pane printed suits.

Perhaps you’ve already done the prom thing and spring to you means something else – cleaning out your closet. If that’s the case, Mapleview Centre invites you to share your style this prom season and donate any new or gently worn dresses, shoes and accessories (stuff for guys is also welcome!) to Guest Services. Mapleview has partnered with Brash Avenues for Project Prom, an initiative that offers students an opportunity to experience prom the way it was meant to be celebrated – in style.

Drop off your goods between April 10 to May 10 and you could win one 1 of 5 $200 Mapleview Gift Cards to spruce up that empty space in your closet. But you didn’t think we’d stop there right?! There will be a grand prize draw for a $500 Gift Card to Mapleview Centre along with a 2 hour styling session with yours truly!
