A Dress to Remember: Project Prom at Mapleview

POSTED April 10th, 2013

Spring is in the air, the birds have begun chirping and flowers have begun sprouting. But let’s be honest, if you’re in high school, the ONLY thing on your mind right now is prom! Dates are being asked, limo rides are being orchestrated and teens everywhere are asking the same question: what am I going to wear to prom?

This prom season, there’s no need to look any further than Mapleview Centre. With hundreds of shops offering dresses to tuxes and pumps to oxfords, there is something for everyone. Unsure as to what trend best suits you? Not to worry, I’ll recap some of the trends from award season and what’s hot this spring so you can pick an outfit that best suits your style.

Metallic Gold – This year is all about drama. And I’m not talking high school drama, I’m talking floor length gowns with metallic gold accents. Be sure to balance the hue with black or neutral accents.

Bright White – Flowing, ethereal white gowns were a top pick and are the perfect nod to summer. To avoid a bridal look, add black or bold metallic accents.

Colour Pop – Consider yourself a risk taker? Why not opt for this season’s biggest trend: neon hues. Whether it’s fuchsia or chartreuse, there’s a bold gown out there with your name on it.

As for styles, peplum reins strong while risky slits and embellished prints are new to the scene. Consider a baroque inspired pattern for a true statement.

As for the gents, don’t be scared to shy away from a classic – a slim-fitting black suit.  Personal details to customize a suit are really popular such as patterned bowties, lapel pins or bold puffs. Other popular styles include dark grey combos, three piece ensembles and a window-pane printed suits.

Perhaps you’ve already done the prom thing and spring to you means something else – cleaning out your closet. If that’s the case, Mapleview Centre invites you to share your style this prom season and donate any new or gently worn dresses, shoes and accessories (stuff for guys is also welcome!) to Guest Services. Mapleview has partnered with Brash Avenues for Project Prom, an initiative that offers students an opportunity to experience prom the way it was meant to be celebrated – in style.

Drop off your goods between April 10 to May 10 and you could win one 1 of 5 $200 Mapleview Gift Cards to spruce up that empty space in your closet. But you didn’t think we’d stop there right?! There will be a grand prize draw for a $500 Gift Card to Mapleview Centre along with a 2 hour styling session with yours truly!

So what are you waiting for? Get those closets cleaned out!

Celebrate Glamour!

POSTED December 19th, 2012

We’ve swapped out light jackets for parkas, flats for boots and our go-to coffee joint has adorned its take-away cup with images of snowflakes – there’ s no denying the holiday season is upon us! Lights are strung and trees are lit and we can’t help but think of the glamorous aspect of the season. Below I’ve rounded up my favourite items of the season:

Sparkling Stackables

I know you’ve noticed the arm parties on women of every age with every style but this season, why not top yours off with a touch of glam? PANDORA bracelets offer customizable options to let you create a style that is uniquely you. The Clear Pave Lights charm is sure to add some glitter to your wrist!

The Glamorous Dress

I’m sure the party invites are stacked up so it’s time to find that perfect holiday dress to get you through the season. I love this perfect number from BCBG -the Marta Sequined Cocktail Dress - which adds a touch of glamour to a classic look.

Add Some Sparkle to your Step

Glitter is definitely the rage this holiday season and there’s no reason you can’t add a pop of fun to your daily routine. Whether it’s an office look or running errands on weekends these Stuart Weitzman flats from Brown’s Shoes are the perfect flat of the season.

Glitter-Inspired Manis

Why not add some glamour to your next mani and pedi with the Sephora Tinsel Town Eight Piece Set. This collection of mini nail polishes will get you ready for the holiday season with bestsellers, trend shades and basics. It’s the ideal gift or perfect treat for yourself!

For the Man in your Life

Shopping for that special someone and finding yourself stumped? There’s no denying every man loves an appropriate hint of glamour in his wardrobe. I’ve had my eye on the Nate Stainless Steel Watch from Fossil for the man in my life. This military-inspired style offers a classic black dial and the white accents add instant polish to finish the look.

All of the products above can be found at Mapleview Centre. Be sure to check them out for all of your holiday shopping needs with a fabulous collection of stores! How do you plan on adding glamour to your wardrobe this holiday season? Would love to know!

FLARE World Runway Tour: Red Carpet Recap

POSTED October 2nd, 2012

Heels clanked, drinks were sipped, apps were passed and VIPs mingled. I know what you’re thinking – another Paris Fashion Week recap – wrong! Last week Mapleview Centre hosted the ultra exclusive FLARE World Runway Tour at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre and boy was it a fab time.

Mapleview balloons

Every dapper dresser in town showed up to this event for a chance to mingle with the evenings MC, Mary Kitchen, entertainment anchor for City TV’s News and hear Elizabeth Cabral, Fashion Director of FLARE magazine, speak to a topic on every fashionista’s mind – fall trends. Of course no party would be complete without the fabulous goody bag and hair touch-ups from the fab TRESemmé team. It was certainly a night to see and be seen!

 Mary Kitchen & Liz Cabral

I opted for an edgy look including burgundy tights, a tweed skirt and leather jacket to pull it all together with my new fav hair style – the top knot!

Krystin Lee, Mapleview's Style Icon & Blogger

Didn’t have a chance to make the event? Not to worry! I jotted down some quick highlights of the evening including some pictures of the fabulous catwalk collections. Here are my top picks for fall:

Peplum

There’s no denying this trend has really taken off since spring 2012 and we’re now seeing variations in the forms of dresses, skirts and even belts. I loved this look which featured a dress from The Bay and a peplum belt from Zara.

 Fall Trend: Peplum

 Knits

Who doesn’t love a cozy knit ensemble for fall? This season kick things up a notch as you mix various knit textures and colors including an oversize statement sweater to pull the look together. I was loving this look with a sweater from Roots, pants from Zara and leather bag from Banana Republic.

 Fall Trend: Knits

 Precious Hues

I’ve stressed it and I’m sure you’ve noticed the play on jewel tones this season. FLARE coined the collection of colours as ‘Precious Hues’ and there was no denying the precious part about it. Whether it’s a royal purple, deep magenta or the color of the season – oxblood – there’s definitely a shade for everyone. I am still swooning over this look which featured a jacket, top, pants, belt and handbag from Zara, pumps from Brown’s and jewellery from The Bay

 Fall Trend: Precious Hues

  Vampire Glam

Despite how you feel about K-Stew and R-Patz, there’s no denying the impression they’ve left on fashion runways around the world. As the ‘Vampire Glam’ trend was announced from the stage, smiles were adorned from attendees as everyone was all too familiar with this sultry look. This hot number is worth sinking your teeth into featuring a dress from Danier, Booties from Town Shoes, Necklace from Zara, bracelet from The Bay and a clutch from Johnston & Murphy

 Fall Trend: Vampire Glam

The night was truly a success and such a fab opportunity to meet and mingle with a fashionable crowd. FLARE and Mapleview Centre truly outdid themselves to put on a spectacular show and offered an amazing collection of fall trends. See something you love? All of the items featured on the runway looks can be purchased at Mapleview Centre.

I’d love to know what fall trends you’re most looking forward to sporting. Feel free to add a comment below!

Till next time fashionistas,

From Wish List to Wrist: Pandora and Fossil Now Open

POSTED September 25th, 2012

September issues have come and gone, the temperature has dropped and pumpkin spice lattes have been introduced into our routine – it’s officially fall! My wish list for this season was a tad larger than expected but can you blame a girl? Thankfully, I’ve been able to cross most of the items on my list off at Mapleview Centre. Whether it’s oxblood waxed jeans, western inspired ankle boots, camo print jackets or more – they’ve got you covered.

With stackable arm parties still trending (another on my list!), Mapleview’s latest additions – Fossil and Pandora – are sure to add a little swag to anyone’s wrist.

We all know and love Fossil’s watches – they’re a tried, tested and true brand. Naturally, I was excited to see this familiar store set up shop in Mapleview Centre but I was amazed to discover some new goodies they’ve now added to the store’s collection.

The Emma line of watches – designed to compliment stackable bracelets – is a sophisticated and modern alternative to popular styles.

The Iconic Bracelet line is a pleasant addition to the brand’s line-up and after one glance, I immediately fell in love with the Turnlock Wrist Wrap in Giraffe Print– adorable!

I don’t know about you but on that ever-growing fall list of mine, the perfect saddle bag found a spot right near the top and folks – I think I may have met my match. The ‘Austin’ collection of saddle bags captures the rugged-vintage feel you want out of a bag but also masters the art of organizing the modern woman’s essentials.

For the gents, I caught myself swooning over the Ansel Watch line. This vintage inspired line is the perfect marriage of Don Draper and the modern man. A definite must have!

An arm party is never complete without a plethora of fabulous stackable bracelets and I can’t think of a better brand to complete the look than Pandora.

Famous for their eye-catching bracelets – these customizable pieces allow you to create your own personal look. The Autumn Collection of charms captures this season’s trends including animal and tribal prints as well as onyx finishes.

Pandora has also adapted the ‘stackable’ concept into their ring collection offering a neat app online that allows you to create your own set of rings. With silver, gold and rose gold options – the possibilities are endless!

I don’t know about you but I’m excited to add some fab items to my wrists this season. What about you? Is there a certain watch or piece of jewellery you’re on the hunt for? I’d love to know!

Till next time fashionistas!

Pin for the Win!

POSTED July 12th, 2012

Who can deny the thrill of pinning these days – whether it’s planning your next meal, DIY, ensemble or more – there’s something for everyone on Pinterest! Naturally, I was thrilled when the Mapleview Centre team announced one of the coolest contests I’ve heard of to date – the Your Passport to Fashion Contest.

So simple and yet so fun – create a board of 9 items found at stores in Mapleview Centre including 4 additional pins capturing the essence of your dream vacation. Up for grabs? Oh, only a fabulous Jetsetter Giveaway including a $1,500 travel gift certificate and a $1,000 gift card to Mapleview Centre. Does it get any better than this?

To create awareness about the contest, Mapleview sent out their fashionable ‘Jetsetters’ to local areas of interest. With outfits like these, who could say no?

Jetsetters at Cineplex

 Him – Shirt, Pants : H&M | Boat Shoes : Brown’s | Straw Fedora : Zara
Her – Pants, Bracelet : XXI Forever | Blouse : Zara | Shoes : Brown’s | Bag: Danier

I had the fabulous privilege of reviewing your boards and I must say I was definitely impressed (and may have hunted down your pins for my own board!). The creativity and styling was amazing and I was definitely inspired from the submissions. The top jetsetting destinations? Summer fun was definitely on everyone’s minds as relaxing in Fiji, surfing in Hawaii or a thrill-seeking adventure in Australia were frequent picks amongst contestants!

Whether you’re planning a fabulous getaway or a staycation this summer, here’s my recap of the essential items to capture the perfect jetsetter look based on your boards:

  • The perfect summer sandal – opt for comfort but add your personal flare with gemstones, beading, studs or more. Boat shoes were also a fave amongst men and women!
  • Stackable bracelets – the infamous ‘arm party’ is the easiest way to take your look from a bikini-clad day look into that boho chic style for evening.
  • For the gents – bold colours are definitely in so don’t be shy to show off some hues be it your swim trunks, chinos or cuffed shorts.
  • The perfect pair of sunnies – whether its aviator, oversized or a classic style,  be sure to add a punch of your style to any look this summer with the perfect pair of shades.

We’ve collectively determined the Top 10 Boards, and this was not an easy task as there were so many stylish inspired vacation fashions. Check out the Top 10 Boards here!

So after much thought and deliberation, we’re thrilled to announce that Sara Olas is the lucky recipient of the $1,500 travel gift certificate and $1,000 gift card to Mapleview.

YourPassportToFashion_Winner

Sara’s board captured the essence of this contest from creativity to styling and left us wanting more! Congrats Sara –we can’t wait to see how you style yourself for your jet setting adventure!

Till next time everyone!!

Blue Jean Baby: True Religion now open at Mapleview Centre

POSTED May 30th, 2012

I’m sure you couldn’t find one person today who doesn’t have a pair of jeans in their closet. And if you’re anything like me – you have a closet shelf dedicated to them. Naturally, I was ecstatic to learn that Mapleview Centre’s latest retailer to join their collection was True Religion Brand Jeans. A personal favourite of mine and a staple amongst celebs, this store is sure to make an impact.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the store and I must tell you, it took everything in me not to swipe every style off the shelf and pull them into a change room – but I maintained my composure. After chatting with the team, I was fascinated to learn that every pair of True Religion’s jeans are handmade in the USA. The company is truly a leader in the premium denim market and continues to flourish with lines available for men, women and children.

There was no doubt in my mind, an over-arching trend for both men and women this spring and summer is definitely coloured denim. Both the men’s and women’s section were stocked with beautiful bold colours and styles.

The straight leg and boot cut are popular styles that still reign strong for men. The Men’s Geno Phoenix Twill Chino certainly caught my eye…

As for women, I noticed a lot of cropped-capris, skinny jeans and my personal fav – distressed shorts. These two items – the Women’s Joey c/o Short and Women’s Brooklyn w/Flaps Skinny Jean have been hot sellers in-store and I’m hoping will soon find their way into my closet!

True Religion Love Haight

Love and Haight Collection:  Love and Haight Flare & Roxanne Vest

True Religion Women's Keira Cut Off

True Religion Travis Phoenix Twill Cut-off

Looking to add a pair to your collection? Be sure to drop by the store!

New Years Resolutions of a Fashionista

POSTED December 29th, 2011

Hey Fashionistas!

I hope everyone had an amazing and relaxing holiday. Now that your wish list is crossed off it’s time to ring in 2012 with style. What better way than to arm yourself with some fashion resolutions of 2012?

  1. Confidence: It doesn’t matter if you’re sporting designer duds or a no-name vintage score – make this the year you’re confident with yourself. Stand tall; be proud and own whatever outfit you feel amazing in.
  2. Invest in a great bag: We all know planning long-term is crucial for life and our investments but it can also apply to our wardrobe. Look for a bag that’s well made, with quality fabric and a classic shape. Be sure to check out Michael Kors, Coach and Roots at Mapleview for your new BFF of 2012.
  3. Shop Green: This is something I’m aspiring to achieve in 2012. While I don’t expect my closet to transform over night, I can’t deny how much better I’ll feel knowing I’m sporting something that looks great and has a greater good. Looking to ease into the trend? Why not head into Journey’s and try on that pair of TOM’s you’ve been eyeballing all year.
  4. Find Everyday Jewelry: Costume jewelry has really made a comeback in the past year and there’s nothing wrong with sporting a little everyday bling to spruce up any outfit. Simple studs can add finesse to any day of the week. I plan on heading to the Bay or Aldo Accessories for some fun finds.
  5. Wear More Colour: With crisp whites, bold neons and lingerie-inspired trends, 2012 is going to require a sense of adventure as we maneuver from one season’s trends to the next. Give your neutrals a rest and opt for that pop of color!

Now that we’ve got our resolutions down pat, it’s time to figure out how we’re going to ring in 2012! The countdown is on and if you’re finding yourself without plans for the big night, head over to Mapleview for a great time.

TJ’s NYE Party is sure to be a blast with 2 dinner seating’s at 6 and 8 with live entertainment, party favours, champagne at midnight and martini specials. Can’t make a dinner seating? I’ve gotten word that Heineken draught and martinis will be $5.99 as the countdown celebration begins at 9. For more details, email mapleview@turtlejacks.com.

It doesn’t stop there! Across the way – Earl’s will also be hosting their NY party offering a live jazz band and dinner seatings at 5pm, 7pm and 9pm.

Whatever your plans are for the evening, I hope you get your glam on and have an amazing NYE!

xoxo

Michael Kors has definitely set the standard when it comes to arm candy. Treat your wrist to this season’s lavish colour trend in watches– espresso. The MICHAEL Michael Kors Oversized Runway Watch will pop on any skin-tone with its oversized face and sleek design.

Last but not least – the handbag is the bag of the season! Second to diamonds, I’m a firm believer that handbags are a girl’s best friend. They are the perfect compliment to any outfit and are a great way to showcase your style and personality. This particular bag immediately caught my eye. We all know metallic has been a major push for Fall/Winter and what better way to show your vote for the trend than with the MICHAEL Michael Kors Grayson Jet Set Monogrammed Satchel. The embossed logo is the perfect statement to this bag along with the notable “MK” charm dangling from the handles. Another selling feature? Top-handle bags were a major hit on 2012 Spring/Summer runways so this purse will act as a perfect transition piece into warmer weather.

Candy, Fashion & Costumes

POSTED November 3rd, 2011

What do you get when you combine candy, fashion & costumes? Mapleview’s 13th Annual Safe Trick or Treat. Judging by the massive turnout at Mapleview Centre on October 27th , the event was definitely a immense success. I have to say, there was nothing cuter than watching itty-bitty Doras, Wonder Women, Spidermen and more trekking from one store to another with fashionable Moms and Dads in tow.

Mapleview's Guest Services with Make-up by Sephora

While creepy crawlies aren’t really my thing, I checked out the Incredible World of Bugs display which ran from October 27th to 29th. This fabulous exhibit featured the most beautiful, rare and deadly bugs of the world. It was great to see the kids so excited at being able to experience these creatures up close.

While walking across the upper level, I couldn’t help but notice the amazing Halloween makeup on the girls at Sephora. Intrigued, I decided to strut into the store and see what was up.

I took a seat at the Beauty Studio and chatted with one of the artists (who was rocking the coolest fairy look) who let me in the know on some of Sephora’s amazing services. The Custom Makeup Application service is the perfect opportunity to put that finishing touch on any outfit for any occasion. The artist will create a fully customized look specific to your event and preferences. They shared with me some of the hottest makeup looks from Halloween including the Villain, Fantasy and Fairy.

The Sephora artist was also sure to give me some quick tips on the hottest makeup trends that would make me the belle of the ball for the upcoming holiday season:

  • Fiery lips – whether it’s bold red or orange lips, there sure to make a statement!
  • Winged Eyes – take your eyes to the extreme!
  • Smokey Eye –modernized this classic look with unique variations of colour!
  • Metallic Eye shadows – Get your glitter on with the hottest shades of the season!

In a rush? Not to worry! The store’s Express Services will connect you with an artist for 5-10 minutes who can help you perfect one aspect of your face such as your eyes, lips or cheeks.

What are you still doing reading this? Get into Sephora at Mapleview Centre now for the most buzzed-about beauty looks and trends!

Undies, Teddies and Lace – oh my!

POSTED October 31st, 2011

Things have been heating up lately at Mapleview Centre with the recent grand opening of the ever-so-lovely Victoria’s Secret. Naturally, I was thrilled to RSVP to the invitation only Special Preview Shopping event. As the curtains slowly drew apart, my jaw dropped to find a fully stocked haven of goodies any girl would die to have.

I was immediately drawn to the centre display which boasted the latest collection of bras and underwear. Whether ruffles, lace or polka dots are your calling – there was something for you. I then moved inwards towards the adorable pyjama sets pre-wrapped and arranged by colour (a great gift idea too!) The murals of bras hanging across the walls fill the store as works of art leading you from one room to the next. I eventually found myself at the back of the store admiring the Beauty section (a recent expansion for the company) which includes countless fragrances, an impressive make up collection and other fun treats.

One bra-fitting, an hour of admiring and my wish-list slated, it was clear I was thoroughly impressed with this great new addition to the centre.  My purchases for the evening included the Baked Mineral Bronzing Powder and the Incredible by Victoria’s Secret Bra – all thanks to the Style Icon gift card of course!

To compliment the store opening, Victoria’s Secret encouraged shoppers to their own Angel picture at the main entrance of Mapleview. Fashionistas were encouraged to strike a pose for the camera, and the  iconic pair of angelic wings were superimposed on their back.

 Angel Picture

Oh but wait my fellow fashionistas…it gets better. As if the VIP Preview event and a Angel picture weren’t enough, Victoria’s Secret definitely wasn’t done yet. One week following the store’s grand opening, Victoria’s Secret hosted an exclusive meet and greet with the sexy, the fabulous – oh forget it, she doesn’t need an introduction, we all know who she is – Alessandra Ambrosio. That’s right – Ms. Ambrosio – the Victoria’s Secret runway show opener herself was signing autographs and greeting fans at Mapleview.

As I arrived at the centre, I was ecstatic to see devoted fans already lined up waiting to meet the dream angel. With my highest pumps on, hair curled and lip-gloss carefully applied, I was ready. In true Style Icon fashion, I was immediately whisked to the front of the line where I was greeted with a welcome by security guards and Alessandra’s PR people.

In a mere matter of moments, I watched the Brazilian bombshell be escorted to the front of the store where adoring fans snapped pictures. I was promptly escorted to her side where we met and stood for a mini photo shoot. Yes, she is gorgeous…yes, she is fabulously fit and yes, she is sweet as pie. What a stellar combo.

Don’t despair, I was able to snag Alessandra’s ‘Iconic’ picks for the upcoming season. Her favs? The NEW! Dream Angels Push-Up Bra. This hot little number comes packed with Memory Fit conforming to your curves and offers seamless shaping.

Also on her wishlist is the new Bombsell Seduction fragrance. With notes of magnolia, sparkling grapefruit, warm musk and more this sexy limited-edition scent packs appeal into one gorgeous bottle.

I hope you were able to make it to at least one of these wonderful events. If not, be sure to ‘Like’ the Mapleview Centre Facebook Page for other exclusive events and updates brought to you by the amazing collection of stores and restaurants.

Have you had a chance to check out Victoria’s Secret at Mapleview Centre? Let me know what you think about it. Till next time!

Falling for Fall

POSTED October 1st, 2011

With my September edition of Vogue read from cover to cover and my fall wish list carefully prepared, there was nothing left to do but shop! The variations on coats and shoes we’ve seen in the fall trend reports left me tickled pink with what was in store at Mapleview. So I did what any Style Icon would do…grabbed my Mapleview gift card (a fabulous perk of the contest), wish list and a camera to share with all of you what amazing finds I uncovered.

First on the agenda – shoes! I’ve always been a firm believer that style and comfort can be achieved and rocking a pair of Toms is the perfect marriage of these two mandates. Stylish sneakers are everywhere this fall and Toms in particular have been spotted on celebs such as Hilary Duff, Kristen Stewart and the Olsen twins. I high-tailed it to Journey’s and wasn’t disappointed by the array of casual kicks including Toms, Sperry’s, Minnetonka moccasins and tons more.

As you can tell by the pic, these Toms sparklers definitely caught my eye and with a promise to donate a pair of shoes to a child in need with every purchase, who doesn’t love looking good and feeling great about it?

Now that I had nailed down my cool, casual sneaker, it was time to scout out another great love of mine for fall – the oxford. Whether it’s a flat, pump or boot style, the look is EVERYWHERE this season and there are so many countless ways to wear them. I decided to do a bit of name-dropping at Brown’s and after introducing myself as the Style Icon and the premise of this blog post, I was introduced to three chic styles of loafers any woman would kill for. These MK heeled loafers are darling and can go from casual to chic in a second while the Hush Puppy booties are the perfect combination for knit tights or skinny jeans.

Styles from Left to Right: Michael by Michael Kors, Geox, Hush Puppy.

With two items crossed off my list, I was bitter sweet about the next item on my agenda: coats. I know, I know many of us aren’t quite ready to accept the fact that these seemingly foreign objects have hit stores. Let me assure you, the colours, styles and fits stocked in stores such as BCBGMaxazria, Rudsak, and Danier are so stylish, you’ll be wishing for the perfect fall day to sport these looks.

Taking cues from Mapleview’s Style Party, I decided to start my treasure hunt at H&M. I came across this faux-fur darling and immediately fell in love with the burgundy hue. This number can go from day to night and will look great with a pair of equestrian boots or the oxford style ankle booties featured above.

Always known for their cutting edge collections, I headed down to BCBGMaxazria to see what goodies they had in store. While sifting through one gem after another, one of the consultants shared her coined term for the fall collection which left me thinking. She dubbed it “unmistakeably chic” and she couldn’t have been more right. These two styles were impossible to pass up and to be honest; a photo doesn’t do them justice. Arline, the black overcoat, mixes textures and patterns while Carlin, the camel-coloured trench, features an interesting cowl-like neckline that adds that ‘Je ne sais quois’ to any outfit.

BCBG's unmistakeably chic coats

I headed on up the escalator to the always-chic Danier to see what variations they had taken on this fall’s trends. The smell of luxe fabrics filled the air as my eyes darted from one section of the store to the other. Danier has recently introduced new 3 collections to their stores –Blink, Object and Greta Constantine’s ‘Skin – and they definitely do not disappoint. Low and behold this two-tone lamb leather jacket was shining like a beacon in the store and totally caught my eye. Paired with a maxi dress or high-wasted jeans, this coat could easily become your new BFF for the fall and winter weather.

My final pit stop for the night was at Rudsak. This Montreal based retailer had some of the most interesting yet functional array of coats and accessories. This one jacket immediately caught my eye!

Functional rugged leather motorcycle jacket from Rudsak

As if the concept of a rugged leather motorcycle jacket wasn’t luring enough, I was stunned to learn that the jacket boasted a removable vest that doubles as an amazing accessory over long sleeved shirts and blouses. Still not done! The side pockets were completely detachable and the sleeves rolled up to reveal a completely different look. This 3 in 1 jacket is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before and is definitely worth a try the next time you’re at Mapleview.

Overall, the shopping trip was a huge success and after previewing the beginning of the fall/winter collections, I know I’ll be able to knock more off my wish list at Mapleview. Stay tuned for my next post!

A Tale of Fashion From The Style Party

POSTED September 20th, 2011

What do scrumptious apps, tasty cocktails, a room full of fashionistas and FLARE have in common? Anybody who’s somebody can tell you it was the perfect setting for Mapleview’s annual Style Party. Hosted by FLARE’s Associate Fashion News Editor, Mosha Lundström Halbert, the coveted event was held at Earls Kitchen & Bar in Mapleview Centre and proved to be nothing short of a fabulous time. VIP guests were greeted with red carpet treatment, amazing giveaways and best of all – the opportunity to hear from Canada’s leading fashion publication on what looks made their trend report.

Fashionistas line up for an evening full of style!

Top of mind tips Mosha discussed included menswear inspired looks, not shying away from bold colours, python vs plaid, faux-friendly fur and playing with different shapes. Best of all? Models strutted the runway with looks assembled from Mapleview’s roster of fashion-forward retailers including Zara, Forever 21, Rudsak, Danier, Browns and many more.

FLARE Fall Trend Report: Python Print

The event took an interesting twist at the end of the evening when 3 finalists of the Style Icon contest were asked to model an outfit of their choice with items selected from Mapleview’s stylish retailers. The coveted prize included the chance to be crowned the ‘Mapleview Style Icon’ and the opportunity to chat about all things fashion, trends and more as the blogger for Mapleview Centre. The competition was fierce and the outfits – fiercer. A huge shout out to Lauren Erickson and Christina Cravero whose ensembles were to-die-for and both owned the runway. I’m still in shock as I’m writing this but I’m pleased to introduce myself – Krystin Lee – as your Style Icon.
